Electrical appliances are essential items to have in any kitchen, but like most electrical gadgets they pose a risk if used incorrectly. Please read the instruction book that comes with your appliance and take note of these important safety points:

Safety First!

  • When you buy an appliance, read the instructions before the first use and always follow the instructions when using and cleaning.
  • Do not forget to register your new appliance. It allows us to contact you easily if a safety notice or recall is required. The chances of a faulty product causing serious damage are small, but the risk is still there and returning a faulty product or ordering its repair is very easy to do. To register all your Dualit appliances, regardless of age, visit www.dualit.com/product-register 
  • Make sure you register old, second hand, skip found and brand new products. The are all important to us. Any product made after the year 2000 can be registered. Registering your appliance takes just 60 seconds, watch the video to see what you need to do.
  • Please be aware that if you purchase an electrical product second hand, it will have no known history and will not have undergone packing and quality checks prior to sale so will pose an increased electrical safety risk.
  • Visit the product notice page on our website to see if you have any recalled electrical items.
  • Check that your appliance has a UK plug, but if it doesn't, do not use a UK travel adaptor, but rather have the retailer fit the appliance with a UK plug.
  • Check the plug and socket regularly for burn marks, sounds of 'arcing' (buzzing or crackling) or if it feels too hot to touch. If you have fuses blowing or circuit-breakers tripping then contact a registered electrician to investigate.
  • Ensure your home is fully protected by an RCD (residual current device), which can generally be found in your fuse box (also known as a consumer unit). An RCD is a life-saving device that protects against dangerous electric shock and reduces the risk of electrical fires.
  • If you don't have RCD protection in your fuse box for your sockets, consider installing an RCD socket or plug to protect you and your property from serious appliance faults.
  • Sometimes, appliance fires are caused by something beyond your control. Please make sure you have smoke alarms and heat detectors installed in your home. There should be a minimum of one alarm/detector per floor and enough should be fitted to cover all areas where a fire could start. Test the alarms regularly and change the batteries once a year.
  • Electrical Safety First advise that if a fire does start, you should leave the building immediately and call 999. Do not try to put out the fire.
