What is the WEEE legislation?
Since 1 July 2007, the UK’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations allow members of the public to deposit old electrical and electronic items at recycling sites across the UK, free of charge.
Why is it important?
Electrical and Electronic Equipment is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the UK, increasing by at least 5% each year, and landfill sites are getting full. Much of this waste can be recycled and the resources recovered to make new consumer goods. The WEEE regulations aim to reduce the quantity of electrical and electronic items going into landfill and will encourage everyone to play a part in protecting our environment for future generations.
How can I recycle my old Dualit products?
You will need to take your old products to a designated collection facility (DCF). By doing this you will help to achieve a high level of collection of EEE for treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal. To find your nearest DCF either contact your local council or visit www.recycle-more.co.uk. This website will also provide you with advice on how to recycle more of your waste electrical goods and household items.
Will Dualit accept my old products back directly?
Dualit are unable to accept you old products back directly. We do not have a legal obligation to do so and are instead contributing to the funding of an alternative network of recycling points through our membership of the Distributor Take Back Scheme. This is a Government backed scheme run by Valpak. Contact your local council or visit www.recycle-more.co.uk to find the nearest collection facilities to you.
How will I know whether the new products I buy can be recycled?
All new electrical Dualit products sold now carry a ‘crossed out wheeled bin’ symbol to help you identify which products are recyclable (or should be considered for repair or reuse). You do not have to have purchased new electrical and electronic equipment to be able to recycle your old equipment.
Please help us to minimise the effect we all have on the environment by recycling your old Dualit products and where possible repairing them before replacing. If your old Dualit product is still in a good working condition or could be repaired for further use, please consider donating it to a charitable organisation or by giving it to someone else in need. By extending the lifetime of your old products you are also contributing to the efficient use of resources and avoiding additional waste.
