Overstuffed Cheesy Toastie

This overstuffed cheese toastie is a mouth-watering indulgence that turns a humble sandwich into a decadent treat.

Overstuffed Cheesy Toastie

Air Fryer Setting: Manual

Temperature: 175°

Cooking Time: 10 minutes

                                                                                                                                 

Ingredients:

  • 2 x thick slices of bread
  • 25g butter
  • 2 x slices of cheese (use your favourite)
  • 2 x slices of ham
  • 50g grated mozzarella cheese
  • 50g pesto sauce (basil or tomato)
  • A handful of rocket leaves or watercress

                                                                                                                                  

Method:

  1. Butter one side of each slice of bread - these buttered sides will become the outer sides of the sandwich.
  2. On the unbuttered side of one slice of bread, place a slice of cheese.
  3. Spread 1 tablespoon of pesto sauce over the cheese slice. Place a slice of ham on top of the pesto.
  4. Sprinkle a handful of rocket leaves or watercress over the ham.
  5. Add another slice of ham over the rocket leaves or watercress. Spread a little more pesto over the ham. Place another slice of cheese over the pesto.
  6. Place another slice of bread on top of the cheese, buttered side facing up.
  7. Carefully place the prepared sandwich into the Air Fryer for half of the total cooking time (2.5 minutes). This will help crisp up the bottom of the sandwich.
  8. After half of the cooking time, carefully flip the sandwich.
  9. Sprinkle a generous amount of grated mozzarella cheese over the top of the sandwich.
  10. Continue cooking for the remaining time or until the cheese has melted and turned golden brown.
  11. Carefully remove the sandwich from the Air Fryer and allow it to cool slightly before cutting it in half.
  12. Serve the crispy, gooey and flavourful grilled ham and cheese sandwich.
