Macaroni Cheese

Highly versatile, if you don't have macaroni in your cupboard you can make this with any shape or style of pasta, just adjust the cooking time accordingly.

Make it fun for the kids too by separating the mix into individual ramekins or bowls.

Method
  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.
  2. Add water and salt to a pan and boil.
  3. Add the pasta and boil until it is half cooked then drain the pasta.
  4. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan and add the flour. Mix well.
  5. Slowly add the milk while stirring (add in a 1/4 at a time).
  6. Add in the cheeses, leaving a little bit aside for the topping, and continue to mix together until the cheese has melted.
  7. Add the mustard and mix into the sauce well.
  8. Add the pasta to the sauce and mix until all the pasta has been covered.
  9. Place into an ovenproof dish and sprinkle the top with the leftover cheese.
  10. Cook for 20 - 30 minutes (it will need another 10 once the crumb has been added).
  11. Roughly chop the stale bread and place into the Hand Blender chopper attachment and chop to make bread crumbs.
  12. Fry the chopped bacon in a pan and once cooked add in the bread crumbs.
  13. Continue to cook until the bread is golden in colour.
  14. Add to the top of the macaroni cheese and put back in the oven for another 10 minutes.
