Ensure that you are buttering the outside of the bread; real butter produces the best results. The plates must be wiped clean with a damp, soapy cloth after every toasting. At the end of every day, use a nylon brush to clean all signs of grease off the plates and then wipe over with a damp cloth.

Ensure the toaster is disconnected from the electricity supply before cleaning. Wipe the plates with a cloth wrung out in a bleach solution of 1 tablespoon or 20ml of household bleach to 1 pint/2 Litres of warm water. Wipe again with a clean wet cloth and remove ALL traces of bleach. You may also use a wet Brillo pad to restore the plates back to the non-stick finish; this will not affect the non-stick properties of the sandwich castings. Lightly oil the plates for a few uses after cleaning. Again ensure that all traces of the cleaning agent are removed before toasting.
