It's not the New Year and you may not be on that health kick yet, but cinnamon apple crisps are the perfect after-dinner snack for the festive season. Cinnamon apple crisps bring a sprinkle of Christmas cheer and refreshment to get you through the Christmas dinner blues! Although they are crisp enough to enjoy as a snack, apple crips can also be enjoyed crumbled over yogurt, granola and even porridge!

Ingredients

  • 3 Pink Lady Apples (or any type of apple)
  • 2 tbsp Ground Cinnamon Powder
  • 1 tbsp Granulated Sugar (optional)
Method
  1. Choose the perfect type of apple for your cinnamon crisps! You want to make sure that you have chosen a sweet apple - for example, gala apple, Braeburn or a pink lady.
  2. Core your apple (optional) to create a lovely little ring of apple - which makes it easier for little ones to hold.
  3. Slice your apple delicately. Think about your favourite pack of potato crisps - that's how thick to make your apple crisps. You want your slices to be 1-2mm. They don't have to be perfect, but the thinner the better!
  4. Lay your apple slices on a tray lined with baking paper and gently soak up any access apple juice with a paper towel. Don't press too hard or there will be no sweetness baking into the apple.

  5. With a light hand, sprinkle your ground cinnamon on your apples. Make sure that they all have an even coating, but don't go crazy with this. A little goes a long way!

  6. Flip your apple slices and repeat on the other side.

  7. For an extra sweet tooth - sprinkle a pinch of granulated sugar per every 3 apple slices (or to your heart's content).

  8. There you have it, you're nearly done! Now is time to place your apple slices into the oven pre-heated at 140° fan/ 160° for 20 minutes.

  9. After 20 minutes in the oven, flip your apple slices over for an even bake. Leave them to cook for another 25 minutes (or longer if you want them extra crispy).

  10. Once your apple slices have cooked for 45 minutes, turn the oven off and leave them to cool inside the oven for 40 minutes - this is where the magic happens and turns your apple into crisps! Now they should still be light in colour and golden (not burnt).

Toppings to Try:

Although Cinnamon Apple Crisps are the perfect healthy snack to divulge in, they can also be paired with other dishes complimented by spreads.

Why not try…

  • Peanut Butter
  • Nutella
  • Drizzle of Honey
  • Crumbling your apple crisps onto Yogurt or Porridge.

Top Tips!

  • Be patient! Although you want to gobble up these sweet treats the moment they are done cooking - don't! Leaving them to cool in a still warm oven will do them the world of good and give them the sharpest crunch.
  • When we say slice thinly - slice thin! If your apple slices are too thick, this will cause them to go mushy in the oven. We want a nice crunch when they snap - not to scrape them off the baking sheet in a mound.
