Cheese & Tomato Muffins

Have a go at making our delicious cheesy muffins. These make great snacks for picnics or barbecues, or pop in your lunch box for a treat.

Who says muffins have to be sweet? Impress the brunch and picnic goers with this delicious savoury muffin recipe. We used the Dualit Mini Oven to bake these savoury treats. You will need two mini muffin trays for this recipe!


  • 225g self-raising flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1tsp mixed herbs / chopped sage
  • 50g grated hard cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 140ml milk
  • 3 tbsp light olive oil
  • 50g sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
  • Knob of butter for greasing
  1. Preheat your Mini Oven to 200°, set to Bake, wire shelf position C.
  2. Sieve together flour and salt, add the herbs and grated cheese. Using your Dualit Hand Mixer, with dough hook atachments mix together the egg, milk, oil and tomatoes and stir into the dry ingredients. Take care not to over mix. The mixture should be claggy and lumpy.
  3. Drop equal spoonfuls of the mixture into the tins.
  4. Bake for 10-15 minutes.

Top Tips

  • These muffins are lovely served warm
  • If serving cooled, cut a groove through each with a serrated knife and fill with ribbons of thinly sliced ham, and a drop of cranberry sauce
  • The muffins freeze beautifully and are perfect for popping in lunchboxes
  • For a brunch winning finish, top each muffin with a sprinkle of mixed seeds
