Dualit's Sharyn puts juice therapist Lesley Hawker's 3 Day Juice & Smoothie Detox to the test! Read on to find out just how Sharyn found three days of juicing and how she felt by the end of the plan.
So, the day before I begin my 3 Day Detox, I have bought all the ingredients in advance and I'm quite excited about it! I've had a clear out in my kitchen to give my new Dualit Juicer a permanent home on the worktop. Now to find room for this lot!
Shopping List:
I've decided to make all five juices for my first day in advance, as I will be out all day tomorrow, and store them in the fridge. Juices were prepared, the Juicer cleaned and the kitchen tidied within one hour - not bad for a novice! The Juicer was very easy to use and clean, and the juices were simple to make. My least favourite to make was the Carrot Kick Smoothie, purely because I had to peel two oranges and I hate peeling oranges with a passion!
I'm not looking forward to starting my day off with hot water and lemon either, but I don't like to do things by halves so I'll give it a go… it's only three days right? How hard can it be?!
8am - Certainly missing my morning coffee this morning! The Super Green Smoothie was tasty and very satisfying. I am not a big breakfast person though, so time will tell I guess. I am doing a treetop adventure day today, so let's hope it'll give me the energy I need!
12pm - Second juice of the day - Super Green Clean - is slightly later than it should have been due to being up in a tree! Although I am not particularly hungry, I feel like I should be eating something right about now, I miss the act of eating if that makes sense? Mind over matter I guess.
3pm - After a late night (last night), an early start this morning,
then a very energetic three hours climbing obstacles and swinging
through trees, my partner has gone for an afternoon nap, whereas I
am still full of energy…. Am I feeling the benefits of juicing
already or is he just a lightweight??
9pm - End of day one, all juices made for tomorrow and overall, I am feeling good. I did have a hungry spell at around 6-7pm, but my 8pm Smoothie curbed that.
8am - Woke up feeling chipper and ready to hit the gym. Breakfast (Carrot Kick Smoothie) was very refreshing and easily my favourite so far. Really not enjoying the hot water and lemon in the mornings though!
2pm - All juices made for tomorrow and so far, the only adverse effect is needing to visit the bathroom a lot more than usual, but that was to be expected with all the water and juice I'm drinking. Was a little concerned about how it may affect my tummy, but no issues there!
9pm - Found today a little easier, not feeling hungry at all, and the smoothies/juices are all very tasty. Struggling a little bit to fit in all the detox teas between the juices, smoothies and water though and I only managed two today.
6am - I'll be at work today so interested to see how my last day goes, as I am usually a lot hungrier at work!
1pm - So far so good. In fact, having either a tea, water or juice every hour is actually making the day fly by, bonus!!
8pm - Final day almost done and feeling pretty good right now, although a little anxious about my weigh-in tomorrow morning…
WOW! My total weight loss is 5.5lb! To be fair, I did work out on all three days but still, wow!
I'm not going to say that I feel like a new person, but I definitely have a sense of wellbeing, more energy and, more importantly, I know my body is cleaner on the inside. I will most definitely be incorporating juicing into my daily routine - in fact, I've already made up a batch for the rest of this week!
I spent the last three days thinking about all the lovely, naughty foods I will devour once I have finished my detox, but now find myself not wanting to undo the good work, so a smoothie for lunch and a salad for dinner it will be!
