Millions of aluminium coffee capsules are purchased every year and, without action, a large proportion of those will end up in landfill. Our EcoPress offers a simple, mess free solution by quickly removing the coffee grounds from the capsule so that it can be easily rinsed clean, ready for recycling.

It's clear through our social media that the EcoPress already proves to be a crowd favourite, with many sending us or tagging us in photos of their EcoPress stations.

We sent out a survey to a selection of our customers that have purchased the EcoPress to find out what they liked (and what they didn't like) about the Aluminium Capsule Recycler, how the product fits into their day to day lives and why it's become a staple in their kitchen. December 2020 saw the launch of the latest addition to our Compostable⁺ Coffee Capsule range - Organic Colombian. Renowned for its bright acidity and strong caramel sweetness, this medium roasted single origin takes the best of high-grown, South American coffee and encapsulates its flavour into a single pod.

Our Colombian is recognisable for its smooth chocolate notes and nutty undertones, as well as its pleasing, fruity finish. This limited-edition flavour perfectly complements our existing range of Compostable⁺ Capsules, including our new Intense Espresso with its indulgent, dark chocolate finish and Lungo Americano with its notes of rich cereal and treacle.

Espresso comes from the Italian word that means "pressed-out," which explains how the coffee drink is made; doppio is Italian for "double", as it's a double espresso, but interestingly, cappuccino takes its origins from an Italian word that refers not to coffee, but to friars.

The Capuchin friars were not only renowned for their missionary work among the poor, but also for the distinctive nature of their dress. They wore simple brown robes with a long, pointed hood that typically hangs down the back. The Italian word for the hood, cappuccio, gave rise to the Italian name for the order - and later became the name for this popular cup of coffee given that the color of the espresso mixed with frothed milk closely resembled that of the Capuchin robe.

A modern day cappuccino is made up from a double shot of espresso, topped with thick, hot, velvety frothed milk and dusted lightly with cocoa powderor cinnamon.

A used aluminium coffee capsule is an ideal item to recycle; aluminium is an infinitely recyclable material and coffee grounds are compostable and biodegradable, so no waste is left behind.

At Dualit, we take coffee seriously, which is why when creating our newest coffee profile, we relied on the expertise of our Master Roaster, Kristina, Product Development Manager, Rob and Director, Alex to decide which capsule deserved a place within our current compostable⁺ range.

Initially Kristina was looking at what would be the best Single Origin coffee to launch as our newest and first ever compostable organic coffee capsule. However, when we tasted the Ethiopian and Colombian combined, it blew all precedent out the window. This had to be the blend!
